Skip Bag FAQ’s
Our skip bag service is available across most of the UK and offers a great solution when you need to contain your waste. Our skip bags come in three sizes which arrive flat packed through the post. We will collect your bag on a week day of your choice and you won’t need to be in.
Book nowSKIPBAG™ Overview
In simple terms, SKIPBAG is just like a skip except it arrives through the post and can be used at any time within 6 months of purchase. Our small and medium skip bags are perfect for small projects including some construction waste, whereas our large bag is perfect for bulky waste and larger projects. Keep in mind this bag is not suitable for heavy waste.
As the bag arrive flat packed, you can store it away in your garage, shed or under the kitchen sink until you’re ready to use it. When ready, unfold it and start filling.
SKIPBAG allows you to complete your waste clearance project on your terms, not at the mercy of the weather, expensive road permits or restrictive skip hire terms.
SKIPBAG is a very easy service to use. There are three easy steps to follow
-
Order your bag
Choose a size of skip bag to suit your project and order your skip bag online or from a stockist. We include free next-day delivery on our bag orders.
-
Place your skip bag
Position your skip bag, keeping in mind we will usually need the bag to be placed within 4m of the road with access for a lorry. If the waste is light, we can still collect from further away as long as you tell us when you book the collection.
-
Order a collection on a day of your choice
If you have a light bag, we can send a van and collect it usually the same day or the next day. If you have a heavy bag with construction waste in (small and medium only) then we will usually send a grab lorry or crane, which means the bag must be within 4m of the road.
These bags are about the same size as 2 washing machines and measure 1y3 or 90cm x 90cm x 90cm. They are a great waste solution for small projects such as clearing small items, bric-a-brac, or a general tidy up. Also great for heavy and dense waste such as soil, rubble, tiles and bricks. Just remember if you are filling it with heavy waste, the bag must be placed within 4m of the road with access for a lorry.
Medium Skip BagsThese bags are about the same size as 3 washing machines. They are great for small renovation projects such as a bathroom rip-out and are designed to fit a bathroom suite (bathtub, sink and toilet) within them. They can also be used for slightly larger clearances and can hold 50% more than a small bag.
Large Skip BagsThese bags are a little larger than a typical medium sized skip - around the same size as 9-10 small domestic washing machines. They are designed for larger clearances and suitable for bulky and light waste. Due to their size they must not be filled with heavy or dense waste such as bricks, rubble or soil.
Ordering & delivery of SKIPBAG™
Skip bags can be ordered online on our website or over the telephone. We’re open 7 days a week or you can checkout online 24/7.
Our skip bags arrive through the post. They can be left in a safe place or sometimes they will fit through your letterbox. Large bags will not fit and will have to be left or signed for.
We offer free next-day delivery on our skip bags. Orders must be placed by 1pm to make the next working day. Please note this is not available on weekends and next-day delivery is not guaranteed.

In an emergency, we can send a Man and Van-style waste clearance team to come and clear the waste, even without a bag. However, this will not be suitable for heavy and dense waste such as construction waste.
Placing SKIPBAG™
To access the bag, Skip Bags should normally be placed within 4m of the road and with enough access for a grab lorry or crane (which usually require a road at least 4m in width).
- A wall or fence too near to the bag, which prevents it being grabbed safely
- Parked cars blocking access as we cannot lift over parked vehicles
- No overhead power lines or telephone cables
Bags filled with light bulky waste can be placed up to 10m from the road but you must clearly specify this when ordering collection, or a wasted journey fee may apply. Heavy bags with construction waste must be placed within 4m as these bags will normally need to be grabbed. Failure to follow the bag placement requirements could result in extra charges or a wasted journey, so if in doubt please ask.
Skip bags arrive flat-packed but quickly resemble a large waste containment device not too dissimilar to a skip. We recommend turning over the sides as you start to fill the bag before turning them back. As the waste is added, the skip bag supports itself.
It depends where you are placing your skip bag. If the skip bag is placed on your property and not on a public highway, you will not need to get a skip permit. If you intend to place the skip bag on the public highway, you will need to speak to your local council to organise a permit and light the skip bag and provide adequate signage.
We can only grab or crane-lift intact and undamaged skip bags. We do collect a number of bags using our Man and Van fleet, which does mean we can usually offer this service instead of a grab or crane, particularly for light or bulky waste bags. Heavy bags may incur an extra charge if we cannot grab them and we cannot accept responsibility if a bag breaks.
If a bag arrives damaged please contact us for a replacement.
Filling a SKIPBAG™
Bags filled with light bulky waste can be placed up to 10m from the road but you must clearly specify this when ordering a collection or a wasted journey fee may apply. Heavy bags with construction waste must be placed within 4m as these bags will normally need to be grabbed. Failure to follow the bag placement requirements could result in extra charges or a wasted journey so if in doubt, please ask.
Construction wasteConstruction waste should not be mixed with general waste as these wastes must be kept separate. Construction waste should be limited to the small bag although limited amounts are accepted in the medium bag. Heavy bags containing this sort of waste must be within 4m of the road as we usually send a grab lorry or crane to lift the bag.
PlasterboardPlasterboard is not accepted unless agreed beforehand. This is due to specialist processing requirements. Plasterboard can never be mixed with other wastes and we would usually need to send a van to clear this waste to avoid contamination, which means we must know about it in advance.
We cannot acceptWe cannot accept anything that is hazardous or toxic. Items such as asbestos, car oil, tyres, tins of paint, dirty nappies, animal faeces, underlay, felt, food waste, fluorescent light bulbs, medical waste, pesticides, chemical waste & solvents. The sazardous items that we may be able to collect by special arrangement but which will carry an extra charge are: fridges or freezers, plasterboard gypsum (this type of material will only be collected as bagged and dry with no other waste type contamination) also TV and computer monitors. We list these items separately because these have to be disposed of under licensed conditions which do incur an additional charge.
Yes, a skip bag will need to be filled by the time we arrive. Our skip bags are often used by tradesmen or builders so they may be able to help. If you need a labour-included service then our Man and Van waste clearance service could be for you and does include all reasonable labour. It’s often cheaper for bulky waste but can be more expensive if you have a large amount of construction waste.
Skip bags must only be filled to a level load. This means there should be no waste protruding from the bag or additional waste loaded on the top. We will also not be able to collect the skip bag if the sides are built up.
Weight limits are important so please ensure the large bag does not contain heavy waste and that heavy small and medium bags are placed near the road.
Collecting your SKIPBAG™
Collections can be ordered online, either through your account or by supplying us with your order details. If you have a bag and collection package, no further payment will be required. If we are collecting a third party bag such as a Hippo Bag, then you will need to pay for the collection first.
You can also call us 7 days a week.
We offer a named-day collection service which means you can choose the weekday of your choice for collection. Bags filled with light and bulky waste can usually be collected on the same day or next day, but heavy bags with construction waste will usually require at least one business day notice and could be subject to change.
Skip bags must usually be accessible from 8am to 8pm. We may be able to provide further guidance on the day but in most cases we cannot provide updates once the vehicle has started collecting bags and we cannot guarantee a collection time. If you have special requirements please contact us first so we can make sure we offer the best solution.
Yes, we are able to remove Hippo Bags. Please note that the same terms apply. This means that the bag must not be overloaded, it must be accessible and not contain any prohibited waste. We do offer named-day collection and we can often come a lot sooner.
Environment & Recycling
Waste is transferred to a local Waste Transfer Station where it will be sorted and prepared for re-use, recycling or energy from waste. A very small amount of the waste we collect (typically less than 5%) goes to landfill.
Skip bags are made from woven polypropylene and are 100% recyclable. Almost all of the sites we use will reuse or recycle the bags. In some cases we are able to leave a bag behind for you to re-use if you ask us when we are on site, although this won’t be possible for some collections.
We have planted 19,674 trees since 2018, making our service carbon neutral. We are, however, working to actively reduce our emissions, more of which can be found on our environmental page.
Skip bags arrive through the post, so this cuts down the number of journeys required compared to a traditional skip. A traditional skip will drop off the container and return to collect it, which usually generates more emissions than a single journey. There are exceptions to this, such as for large amounts of heavy waste when a skip (which we offer too) may prove beneficial.
Skip Hire Alternative
We do offer a skip hire service which could be more suitable for larger amounts of heavy waste or when you need stronger or even specialist containment for your waste. As well as standard skips, which can be found on our website, we can also supply specialist skips such as enclosed skips or RORO’s for large sites.
Hiring a skip is great if your project is over a fixed period and you may have a large amount of heavy waste or need to lock away your waste. For these sorts of projects, it can often work out cheaper - which is why we offer skip bag and skip hire as well as price comparison tools for you.
Skip bags are great when you have smaller amounts of waste and really appreciate the flexibility and convenience of the solution.
Man & Van Alternative
We are part of Clearabee, the UK’s largest on-demand waste clearance company. This means we have access to over 120 in-house collection teams who will load the waste for you. The clearance option is also very flexible as almost any amount of waste can be collected. Waste can be removed from inside, upstairs, in garden and almost any (safe) location.
Our man and van waste clearance option is often a better option for larger amounts of bulky and light waste or when you have a clearance project which requires labour. Rather than doing it yourself, we’ll do it for you, and usually for the same cost or less than a skip bag.

Rather than doing it yourself, we’ll do it for you, and usually for the same cost as (or even less than) a skip bag. Some benefits of the man and van service are:
- A fixed price service (as long as it fits)
- A reasonable amount of construction waste removal
- Containment for the waste for a period of time
